Homeless Ministry

Each Sunday morning, a couple of people go to Birmingham's Southside and take sack lunches for up to 30 men and women living on the streets.  Once a month, hygiene packs filled with toothpaste, washcloths, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, razors, etc. are taken along with the lunches. 

During the winter months, blanket, sweaters, coats, jeans, hats and gloves are distributed.  During the summer months, we take light weight shirts, shorts and t-shirts. 

Each Christmas, backpacks filled with goodies such as canned soups, canned meats, new socks, gloves, etc. are passed out as a gift.  Several churches along with Genesis and the people doing the ministry donate items. 

This is a very rewarding ministry to give back to those in need and it has been happening every Sunday since August, 2009.  Relationships have formed with many of these men and women and trust has been earned.  These men and women are a blessing to us as much, if not more so, than the supplies are to them.
