I grew up in Anniston and am completing my fourteenth year of ministry. For the past three years I have served as the associate pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham. Before that I served as the senior pastor of the Aldersgate church in Dora, the Asbury church in Albertville, and the Union Grove and Spring Garden churches in the old Anniston district. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State University, my Master of Divinity degree from Emory University, and my Doctor of Ministry degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.
I have been married to my wonderful wife, Wendy, for sixteen years; but we have known each other a lot longer than that. We grew up together at the same church in Anniston! Wendy is a first grade teacher at Valley Elementary in Pelham. We have two children of whom we are very proud: Nick, who is fourteen, and Caroline, who is twelve.
I like to read, listen to music, and fish. I am also looking forward to taking up some old hobbies that I've let fall by the wayside the past few years (like weightlifting, racquetball, and biking).
As far as faith and church go, I do have several areas that I am especially interested in. They are not especially complicated or profound but I am convinced that virtues like hospitality, generosity, integrity, gentleness, good humor, and responsible interpretation of scripture should be among the hallmarks of those who call themselves the body of Christ.
One of my favorite parts of being a pastor is visiting and discussing matters with church family. I am afraid that kind of fellowship and camaraderie is too often neglected or underrated.
